Hotel Convento Santa Catalina will provide you with a special and unforgettable break from everyday life. Over 400 years of history still lives within the walls of Convento. Originally a monastery founded by the Augustinian order in 1609, Convento offers an experience like no other in Antigua.
Hotel Convento Santa Catalina is located in the heart of Antigua Guatemala on the iconic 5th Avenue, directly under the famous Arch of Santa Catalina. The Arch is the most recognized of all Antigua’s landmarks.
In the walls of this historical and protected property, the atmosphere of old colonial times still remains. Surrounding the main garden are 10 luxurious rooms which fit perfectly in their magnificent setting. In the area facing the ruins of the old church, we added 7 more rooms in a more modern style while still keeping a colonial touch. Then, there are 8 more colonial style rooms surrounding a second colonial courtyard.

The hotel and restaurant entrance are on Arch Street (5th Ave) directly under the arch, but our hotel rooms are well separated from any street noise to ensure a quiet and peaceful night´s sleep.
We have undeniably unique things about our hotel to admire. Through the viewing window of the hotel’s corridor stand the statues used for the processions during Semana Santa. We still have the original staircase that passes through the inside of the arch, once used by the nuns of the monastery as a passageway to their school across the street. The arch aided the nuns in staying out of the public eye for centuries. Inside, our large and striking fountain in the center of our courtyard is hand carved from stone. And as your staff, we will do everything in our power to make your stay as unique and enjoyable as possible.
